Homeschool Organizations:
When considering homeschooling, parents might fear that they
will be all on their own. That need not be the case. There are
numerous organizations both on and off-line that offer support,
advice, and events or get togethers for educational and socialization
purposes.
We belong to an organization that gets together at least weekly
year round. Parents take turns leading or facilitating learning
activities. We sometimes go camping as a group. During the summer
most activities are fun and more physical in nature.

Santa Fe Homeschool Association

Both Santa Fe groups have approximately 150 members. The New
Mexico site used to be a yahoo email list but is now a website
with forums for discussion. Some famlies choose to be on more
than one list so they don't miss anything.
Southwest Home Education - http://www.southwest-home-education.com.
This organization hosts the homeschool trip to disneyland and
other regional events.
To find other homeschool organizations, just
Google the name of your city and state followed by the words homeschool
organizations or homeschool information. It is sometimes easier
to start at the state level. For example, to find organizations
in New Mexico, Google "New Mexico homeschool organizations"
without the quotes. If you don't find anything with those words,
then try home education, home learning, or make home school two
words instead of one.
One of the Best Resources is Free:
Your local library is one of the best available
resources for home education. From books, videos, and magazines,
to endless research on site and on-line, you can examine practically
any subject in depth. And the librarians are more than happy to
help.
Many libraries have on-line catalogs so you can find what you
want and reserve it before you ever leave home.
We have library cards for Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Pojoaque, and
Espanola.
All of them have something unique to offer. They also each have
different rules about how long you can have something checked
out, how many things you can have checked out at once, and penalties
for late returns. So be sure you find those out.

Another great library resource is available at Community and
other Colleges and Universities. They often allow residents of
their town, and sometimes their state, to use the library. Just
call and ask.
To find information about any library, just
Google the name of your town and state and follow it with the
word library. For example, to find the Santa Fe library you would
google "Santa Fe New Mexico library" without the quotes.
